Internet Hunting Bans Signed in Michigan and New York
Two bills were signed into law by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm at the close of September to ban the practice of internet hunting. Caucus Co-Chairs Senator Michele McManus (R-Lake Leelanau) and Senator Bruce Patterson (R-Canton), and Representative Glenn Steil (R-Cascade) introduced SB 373 and HB 4465, respectively, which prohibit computer assisted shooting and operation of facilities to engage in the activity.

New York Governor George Pataki signed legislation recently to ban the practice in the Empire State. The bills were introduced by Senator Carl Marcellino (R-Syosset) and Assemblywoman Deborah Glick ( D - New York City).

Nebraska Sportsmen’s Foundation Hosts Highly Successful Fall Banquet
Recently, the Nebraska Sportsmen’s Foundation hosted 15 state senators at a banquet cited by attendees as a great success. Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy, State Treasurer Ron Ross, Nebraska Game & Parks Commission Executive Director Rex Amec and four additional NGPC representatives were also in attendance. The event raised $25,000 for the Foundation which works closely with the Nebraska Legislative Forum to promote the sportsmen’s agenda.

Arkansas Caucus Members Meet to Plan for Future Initiatives
The Arkansas Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus met recently at Lindsey's Fishing Resort outside of Heber Springs, Arkansas, with nearly 40 members of the Caucus taking time to address sportsmen’s issues. In addition to reports on recent activities by members of the Caucus, the group formed of two subcommittees to handle issues such as organizing fundraisers, inviting sponsors to participate with the Caucus in future events and drafting legislation to improve and protect sportsmen's rights in the state. Members of the Caucus also had a chance to do some trout fishing and trap shooting at a local club.
