Oklahoma Legislators Unite as 25th State Sportsmen’s Caucus
More than two dozen state legislators will gather on Friday, September 23 to launch the Oklahoma Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus. The Oklahoma Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus becomes the 25th group of legislators in a national network of state caucuses united through the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC) to promote a pro-sportsmen’s agenda in state legislatures across the U.S. The kickoff will include a trap shoot and dinner at the Groendyke Lodge in Enid, Oklahoma.

Vermont Legislators to Announce Caucus Initiative
State legislators in Vermont are using this Friday’s Hunter Appreciation Day to announce plans to launch the Vermont Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus. At a State House celebration honoring the economic and environmental contributions of sportsmen in the Green Mountain State, Senator Mark Shepard (R-Bennington) and Representative Steven Adams (R-Hartland) will promote the effort to unify the allies of sportsmen in the legislature under a bi-partisan caucus.

Second Annual Meeting Scheduled for November 13-16 in St. Michael’s, Maryland
Make your plans now to attend the most important event of the year for state sportsmen’s caucuses. The NASC Annual Meeting is a comprehensive, three-day policy conference that brings together state legislators, wildlife management professionals, outdoor industry leaders, and the hunting and fishing community to discuss and formulate policy to advance a pro-sportsmen’s agenda.

This year’s meeting is sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and hosted by the Maryland Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus in St. Michael’s on Maryland’s Eastern Shore at the Harbour Inn Marina and Spa. This year’s agenda provides an opportunity to learn about model legislation to be introduced in your home state to benefit wildlife, hunting and fishing as well as informative, educational seminars designed to update legislators on issues of importance to the sporting constituency in addition to helping your state sportsmen’s caucus become more effective and engaged as well as equal time scheduled to enjoy outdoor pursuits. The Eastern Shore is nationally known for it abundant natural resources and gracious waterways which provide opportunities for trophy stripped bass fishing, adventurous sea duck hunting and world class sporting clays. Arkansas Caucus Goes Dove Hunting
The Arkansas Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus held a dove hunt and fish fry at Senator Steve Higginbothom's (D-Marianna) farm outside of Marianna last week.  Sen. Higginbothom reported, “I am proud to have hosted my colleagues from the Arkansas Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucuses at my home and farm this weekend.  Events such as these allow members of the Caucus to get to know each other better as sportsmen so that we can fight even harder for our constituents on the floor of the Senate and House.” Fifteen legislators and two staff took part in the hunt which was a great success with the help of Federal Cartridge Company and supporters of the Caucus who provided use of trained retrievers.

California’s 2nd Annual Outdoor Sporting Caucus Dinner
Recently, more than a dozen state legislators joined several hunting and fishing organizations and other conservation partners at a formal dinner event at Sacramento’s Sutter Club to support the California Legislature Outdoor Sporting Caucus. The event was hosted by Dino Cortopassi, and co-sponsored by the California Waterfowl Association, the National Wild Turkey Federation, National Shooting Sports Foundation, and NASC. Working with Legislative members, hunting and fishing groups, recreational interests, wildlife conservation partners, and other organizations, the California Legislature Outdoor Sporting Caucus plans to use the unprecedented partnership to educate, focus and coordinate the State Legislature’s support of California’s wildlife and fishery resources and the outdoor-related activities that depend upon them. Members of Minnesota Caucus Take a Day in the Great Outdoors
Members of the Minnesota Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus were recently hosted at the Diamond S Ranch in Squaw Lake by the Minnesota Outdoor Heritage Alliance (MOHA). SCI Life Member David Sandstorm graciously donated his ranch to hold the event which included goose hunting, nature walks, black powder rifle shooting, duck and goose calling and many other outdoor activities. Caucus Co-Chair and NASC Vice President Senator Pat Pariseau (R-Farmington) stated, “Attendees found recreation, camaraderie, and friendly competition, along with plenty of food, beverage and good fun! We are so grateful for this opportunity and are proud to be working with MOHA on behalf of Minnesota sportsmen.” The event concluded with auctions which rose over $10,000 dollars for MOHA and the Caucus. The NASC was able to provide many auctions items through the gracious donations of our many partners.
