Arizona Legislators Form Coalition to Promote the Interests of Hunters and Anglers
Two dozen Arizona lawmakers pledged to become Legislators for Wildlife with more than 100 sportsmen on hand at the Glendale Cabela’s store. The focus of the new legislative group will be to serve as an identified group of allies willing to stand up for the rights of sportsmen when pertinent legislation is introduced.

Sportsmen’s Agenda Moves Forward in Annapolis
The Maryland Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus once again tracked down anti-hunting legislation and reeled in victories for sportsmen during the 2007 legislative session. Measures to impose a statewide ban on the use of steel-jawed leghold traps and to prohibit the Department of Natural Resources from authorizing conservation-minded black bear hunts were defeated while Sunday hunting of deer on private lands was expanded.

Caucus Members in Arkansas Pass Numerous Pro-Sportsmen’s Bills
Working both in the legislature and with state agencies, the Arkansas Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus (ALSC) introduced and passed several bills to benefit The Natural State’s hunters and landowners.

Idaho Legislature Bans Internet Hunting & Creates New Grey Wolf Tag
During the 2007 legislative session, lawmakers in Idaho moved two sportsmen’s bills after meeting with hunters and anglers at the Capitol in January. The legislature voted overwhelmingly to prohibit internet hunting in the Gem State.

Pennsylvania and Michigan Promote No Net Loss to Tackle Hunting Access Decline
Leaders of sportsmen’s caucuses in Pennsylvania and Michigan have introduced “No Net Loss” legislation. Earlier this year, Virginia Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus members passed similar legislation, bringing the number of states protecting hunting land through “No Net Loss” initiatives to eight.

Washington Legislators Working on Apprentice Hunting
Lawmakers in the Evergreen State are working to pass HB1249 introduced by Washington Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Brian Blake, a bill that allows a one-time one-year deferral of the hunter education program for new hunters accompanied by experienced hunters.

Texas Organizations Unite with Caucus to Oppose Overly Broad Animal Cruelty Bill
Texas Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Carl Isett presented a letter from the sportsmen’s caucus to guarantee that sportsmen’s concerns on HB2328 were addressed. The bill makes dramatic changes to current animal cruelty law that would subject wildlife regulations and sportsmen’s activities to new administrative and judicial interpretation, despite attempts to carve out sporting exemptions.

Utah Sportsmen’s Caucus Leader Helps Raise Funds for Partner NWTF
Utah Senator Allen Christensen, Co-Chair of the newly launched Utah Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, attended the 10th annual Hunting Heritage Dinner and Auction hosted by the Ogden River Rios Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation recently. Utah Wildlife Board Member Richard Diamond and Dean Mitchell, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Upland Game and Wild Turkey Coordinator, were also in the sell out crowd of almost 400 to raise money for the conservation organization.
