Idaho Caucus Closes Highly Successful Session

Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne signed several sportsmen’s bills to ease the process of hunting for individuals with disabilities and medical conditions as legislators ended their session.

Nebraska Passes Hunting License Measure as Session Ends

The Nebraska Legislative Sportsmen’s Forum passed a significant sportsmen’s package as it wrapped up the 2006 legislative session. Rolling everything into one bill, Senators worked with the Nebraska Game and Park Commission to examine its permitting process.

Maryland Sportsmen’s Caucus Posts Another Stellar Session For Sportsmen

Maryland ’s hunters and anglers had many reasons to celebrate at the close of the Maryland General Assembly’s legislative session thanks to the work of the Maryland Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus and Maryland Legislative Sportsmen’s Foundation. The Caucus and Foundation took advantage of several opportunities to be proactive, but also found themselves once again facing attacks from their backyard neighbor, the Humane Society of the United States.

Kentucky Legislators Close Session With Wins for Sportsmen

The Kentucky Legislature adjourned yesterday with several pro-sportsmen’s bills supported by the Kentucky Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus headed to Governor Ernie Fletcher, a former Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus member. The proposals include a ban on remote hunting, dedicated funding for wildlife programs and changes in the fishing license program.

Georgia General Assembly Ends Session with Passage of Positive Boating and Hunting Laws

The Georgia General Assembly considered a variety of pro-sportsmen issues during the recently closed legislative session, including internet hunting, boating registration, muzzleloading regulations and CWD concerns.

Mississippi Caucus Closes Highly Successful Session

The Mississippi legislature adjourned on Friday with the recently launched sportsmen’s caucus successfully passing three pieces of NASC model legislation and others to advance the sportsmen’s agenda in the state. The Mississippi Sportsmen’s Caucus, which was only organized in February, rallied in the second half of the session to promote the protection of public hunting lands, preserve the fair chase ethic of hunting and expand youth hunting opportunities.

Pro-Sportsmen Legislation is on the Rise in State Legislatures

The introduction and passage of legislation to strengthen and increase access and opportunities for sportsmen and women is on the rise in state legislatures. The first three months of the 2006 legislative session have seen more than 150 NASC supported sportsmen bills have been introduced across the states, with 22 bills moving towards the governor’s desks. With the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses serving as the hub, the impact of sharing ideas, modeling legislation and having open and easy access of communication among state caucuses is proving to be a successful formula that yields results.
