State Fish & Wildlife Agencies to Receive More Than $530 Million in Sportsmen’s Excise Taxes
Excise taxes paid by the nation’s hunters, shooters, archers, fishermen and boaters will supply more than $530 million for state fish and wildlife agencies this year, according to an announcement by the US Fish & Wildlife Service on Wednesday.

Maryland Sportsmen’s Caucus Sends Hunting Heritage Protection Act to Governor in Closing Hours of Session
Last night in the waning hours of the 2005 legislative session, the Maryland Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus was triumphant once again over the Humane Society of the United States by passing the Maryland Hunting Heritage Protection Act by a more than two to one majority.

Tennessee Legislature Passes Sportsmen’s Caucus Bill to Ban Internet Hunting
Legislators in Tennessee continued a promising trend on Thursday when a bill to ban computer-assisted remote hunting in the state passed the House unanimously with 92 aye votes.

Arkansas Enacts “No Net Loss” Legislation
Legislation that will protect sportsmen’s access to state public hunting areas was signed into law by Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee on March 30, 2005. Authored by Arkansas Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus member Sen. Steve Higginbothom, the Arkansas Hunting Heritage Protection Act provides for “no net loss” of public hunting areas in the state.

Florida Legislators Enjoy the Outdoors
Florida Legislative Sportsman's Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Baxter Troutman hosted six of his House colleagues on April 1 and 2 at Alico Ranch in south Florida for a weekend of outdoor fun. Rep. Troutman has planned a number of such events designed to get legislators out from behind their desks and into the field to learn more about issues facing sportsmen in Florida.
